Final Insp.
You've been an excellent partner PS- Also don't forget that you still need to add my websites.
I read the fine print on the rubic and to get full points we have to create more than two pages each. I'm covered but you still need to add at least one more for full points on the element.

| Here's my websites for your page on democracy.... Name: Jessica Chatman Date: January 21, 2009 Instructor: Smalla Course: EDT 3470 Evaluating Internet Resources
Name of Web site: Govspot
What is the purpose or goal of this Web site? The Goal of this website is to provide general information about the different branches of government. You can search for information specific to each state, current news regarding US politics, and world affairs. According to the website it’s purpose is “GovSpot.com is a non-partisan government information portal designed to simplify the search for the best and most relevant government information online. This free resource offers a high-utility collection of top government and civic resources hand-selected by our editorial team for their quality, content and utility.”
What organization created this site? This website was created by Startspot Network division of StartSpot Mediaworks.
Do they have a built-in bias towards the information? There is a potential for bias because the website are reviewed by a team of staffers who determine which websites provide the most accurate information. There is no outside arbitrator who can determine whether or not the information is leaning one way or another. What other references are cited for the information presented? This website is a portal to other websites. It doesn’t provide the information directly so much as it links you to other websites related to your topic. The links I checked seemed to general go to government websites first, which can be reliable sources of information.
What other types of organizations link to this site? (Using the Google search engine, type link: and the Web site address (example: link:www.website.com) There are 738 pages that link to this website. These pages range from everywhere newspapers to other…spot.com websites which are also created by the parent company. It also links to library websites, and government websites for different branches of state and local governments.
Who is the author of the page and does that person have valid credentials to present this information? The author(s) of this page are not listed individually. Instead all information according to the about us section of the website are mined by teams of people in their corporate offices. It would be impossible from the information given to determine credibility.
Is there a way to provide feedback on the Web site and create an exchange with the author or Web site manager? The website provides both an email address to communicate, mailing address, fax number, and phone number to contact the website manager.
How old is the material on the Web site? Is it current or outdated? The date on the page says that it was updated on January 20, 2009.
Describe how this Web site might be used in your Unit This website would be a good place for students to start investigating information from different branches of government. I like that this page acts like a search engine that is narrowed down to information specific to politics which is the focus of our project.
Reviewing your answers above, is this a good site to use for your Unit? yes no This questionnaire used by permission from INTEL Teach to the Future. |
| Name: Jessica Chatman Date: January 21, 2009 Instructor: Smalla Course: EDT 3470 Evaluating Internet Resources
Name of Web site: History: US Presidential Elections
What is the purpose or goal of this Web site? Provide historical information and artifacts from US elections. It includes information about all former and current presidents, fast facts, and memorable election moments. What organization created this site? This website is provided by AETN which also produces the History Channel Television program.
Do they have a built-in bias towards the information? This website did not have a built in bias to the information because they simple are providing archival information not providing any commentary on the information.
What other references are cited for the information presented? I did not see any specific references listed for the information listed. However, this website has a lot of advertisements which you have to look at before you can get to the information.
What other types of organizations link to this site? (Using the Google search engine, type link: and the Web site address (example: link:www.website.com) There are only 73 links to this page and most of them linked back to the history.com page itself. Who is the author of the page and does that person have valid credentials to present this information?
Is there a way to provide feedback on the Web site and create an exchange with the author or Web site manager? There is no direct way to contact the website manager or author of the page. You have to go through this long drop down menu through the corporate website, with no guarantees that you’ll get anything but an automated response. How old is the material on the Web site? Is it current or outdated? The website contains mostly information on past presidents so the information is up to date. Describe how this Web site might be used in your Unit This website would be a great resources for video files from actual speeches and for pictures of the presidents. I also liked how they have a special section explaining how the electoral college works.
Reviewing your answers above, is this a good site to use for your Unit? yes no This questionnaire used by permission from INTEL Teach to the Future. |

Jessica....some comments on your lesson plan!
- under standards and assessments, for iste, this is a comment that barb left me"The one ISTE Standard that you also need to include is Research and Information Fluency (which relates to researching using the hot list)." ... i assume that you will need to include this standard as well! if you have a question about what i am talking about you can look at that section of my lesson plan
- under procedure......barb commented that she thought you should have the kids brainstorm(in class) on day one, and then have the students visit the lab on day 2. I noticed that you did not quite follow her suggestion, but I think the way you have it works well too.
those are just a few minor things i noticed, and you may not even want to change them. hopefully this will help you a little bit!
